Meditation: Hearing the noise of silence

Evangeline Plant

Meditation can be defined as the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as a religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed. It is primarily about knowing the weather of our lives and becoming a ruler of it. It's about playfulness, creativity and living your life joyfully.

In today’s society we use the word meditation quite carelessly, meaning that not a lot of people use it in the right context, which changes the way it is exercised. Meditation is a procedure that rests and trains the mind to deviate your line of thinking to reach a different state of awareness to that of your normal every day mind. This can be confused with people going into a day dream or the idea of contemplating life and this is not a practice for meditation.

Meditation comes down to science, meaning to carry it out you follow a methodical order to get the outcome you desire, which is hopefully peace and tranquility. Everyone can carry out meditation regardless of your state of mind, your environment, or even your financial situation as there are so many different styles of meditating that can improve your mental state by just practicing it for a short time per week.

In terms of your health it is scientifically proven that meditation can accommodate you. It can be suited to everyone whether you’re meditating to reduce your stress levels or even expanding your attentiveness.

Reducing stress levels in your body and mind is the most prevalent reason people meditate. Published medical document Meditation programs for psychological stress and well-being’,suggests that over 3,500 adults showed that meditations lived up to its reputation for stress reduction so meditation is a great form of helping this. Start to hear and enjoy the flow of the universe.

It is also thought to increase your attention span and make you more focused by developing the strength and endurance in your mind. A study showed that human resource workers who regularly practiced mindfulness meditation stayed focused on a task for longer.

Kindness, something we strive on at My Little Shop, is another factor why we should practise meditation. There are a large amount of meditation techniques that particularly focus on allowing you to feel extremely positive and promoting these feelings and actions towards yourself and other people around you. This goes hand in hand with the saying ‘treat others how you would like to be treated’, that way everyone is happy.

‘Life is a mystery - mystery of beauty, bliss and divinity. Meditation is the art of unfolding that mystery.’ - Amit Ray.
