It’s unbelievable how quickly a child’s room can go from that picture perfect magazine showroom to what looks like the aftermath of a tornado, but it is a reality of childhood!  However, there are solutions to have tidying up a bedroom appear more attractive to your children! Lets be honest, cleaning up their toys is not at the top of every child’s priority list. So, how do you lead them in the right direction? Here are a few approaches you may consider taking.

Fun Solution:

Creating an entertaining environment for the children serves to make the experience more enjoyable! Perhaps playing a “tidy up” song or turning the chore into a game! If kids love music and playing games then the action of tidying up their room will be more appealing when associated with things that they love.

Friendly Competition Solution:

Who said a little friendly competition between siblings is a bad thing? Asking the kids something like, “Who is going to be the champion today” or “Let’s see who tidies up his or her bedroom the quickest” motivates them to do whatever is asked of them to earn that title or feel that accomplishment.

Emotional Solution:

A parent’s approval means a lot to children, especially at a young age. You can tug at their emotional strings by saying “ I would be so proud of you if you tidy up your room like a big girl or boy”.

Forming these cleaning habits at an early age is  essential for becoming an organised, reliable individual. They will learn as they go and get much better at keeping things in order, but it may take some time and guidance. The best we can do is help them along the way and teach them the importance of living a cleanly life!
